Mobile RV Repair in San Antonio, Florida

San Antonio is the small hill town on the western shore of Lake Jovita, about 1,300 people at the 2020 census, with Saint Leo University next door and SR 52 running just south of both on its way to US 98 and US 301 in Dade City. It is the highest ground in our footprint, rolling terrain that runs from about 110 to 183 feet, and it is acreage country rather than RV-park country. A town built in 1882, and rigs stored the old way

San Antonio was founded in 1882 by Edmund F. Dunne as a Catholic colony and incorporated in 1891, and the Benedictines founded Saint Leo in 1889. It has stayed small and rural on purpose, and the RVs here reflect that: fifth wheels and Class As that live under a barn roof or a pole barn on the owner’s own property, come out for a few trips a year, and go back under cover. That is genuinely better for a rig than an open lot. The roof gets no sun and no rain, the gelcoat does not chalk, the tires last.

What covered storage does not fix is the air. From May into November the air here runs muggy nearly every day, with dew points in the high 60s and 70s and humidity above 90 percent most nights, under a barn roof the same as anywhere else. So the failures we see in San Antonio are the humidity failures: a musty AC evaporator, mildew inside a closed rig, batteries that self-discharged and sulfated over a summer, ethanol fuel that drew moisture and varnished the generator carburetor, and wasps and mud daubers in the water heater and furnace burner tubes. A barn is a good roof, not a dehumidifier.

Lightning on high ground

This corner of Florida sits in the corridor between Tampa and Orlando that carries more lightning than anywhere else in the country, and the ridge around Lake Jovita gets its share. On July 7, 2026, two people were injured in separate suspected strikes near the Lake Jovita area. For a rig on rural property the risk is the long run of wire between the house panel and the barn: a strike anywhere near it puts a surge into a plugged-in rig’s converter, AC control board, and fridge board. If you store a rig on shore power out here, a hardwired surge protector between the pedestal and the rig is the cheapest insurance available. If the boards are already gone, we test each one, quote each in writing, and photograph for your insurer.

What we see most in San Antonio rigs

Pre-trip failures. The rig has sat for months and the trip is Friday. Batteries under load, converter output, water heater light-off, slide cycle, water pump prime, fridge start: a checkout a week ahead is a trip fee and about an hour, and it is how the trip actually leaves on Friday.

Roofs nobody has seen. A rig under a barn does not get walked on. When it comes out for a trip and meets an afternoon storm, the sealant that dried out under cover gets its first test in a year. A roof walk with a camera before the season is cheap.

Absorption fridges on a slope. The rolling ground here matters more than people think. An absorption fridge run badly out of level for days can damage its cooling unit permanently. A rig parked on a grade in a barn should have its fridge off, and a rig out on a trip should be leveled before the fridge goes on.
